Meet a local hero: Ashwini Sahni, M.D.

Dr. Ashwini Sahni is a cardiologist in Wareham who supports the use of yoga and meditation in response to anxiety and depression. He believes solutions exist to mental health challenges in our society and is working hard to find and implement them.

Name: Ashwini Sahni, M.D.

Lives in: Wareham

What he does:

His Superpower is: Inclusiveness!

How does your work contribute to better mental health in the Southcoast?

We are working towards promoting yoga and meditation as a coping tool against anxiety/depression and substance abuse.

What inspired you to work to end mental stigma?

My desire to make a positive impact in the community. Clearly as many problems as we have there are corresponding solutions, and we need to be solution oriented to live in a better society.

What's your advice to others looking for a way to contribute?

Promote online tools for inner well being, the best I found was a 10-hour fantastic well being course called the "Inner Engineering", a $75 course (free for all healthcare workers) that gives wonderful insight on how to maintain joy, balance and clarity despite harsh realities. We also do monthly walk / yoga at the Wareham YMCA (currently offered on our facebook page Wareham wellness with other positive material). We are trying to expand into organizing farmers markets, and engaging with Wareham school system to impact the youth with free exercise programs for those without means.

Are you looking for volunteers?

Currently we are in online world due to the COVID crisis so support would be for spreading the word online and perhaps funds for better nutrition support in Wareham.

What's the best way for people to get in touch, follow you and/or learn more about what you do?

Our Facebook page - Wareham Wellness.
